Troubleshooting

Pinholing can occur due to a number of causes.
1)Substrate has holes. If this is the case you must change substrate.
2)Ink picking on idler roll. Reduce press speed or increase drying rate on tunnel or in-between dryers.
3)Surface tension of ink too high. Use surface tension modifiers (talk to your ink supplier).
4)Surface tension of substrate is too low. Corona Treat or use primer(talk to your ink supplier).
5)Wrong choice of plate mounting tape (sticky back). Change mounting tape (talk to your mounting tape supplier).

Water based inks contain a class of chemicals called amines. These amines are necessary to maintain resin solubility in an aqueous environment. Over time, the ink loses valuable amines by evaporation which must be replenished at regular intervals. If the amines are not replaced, the resin in the ink will eventually precipitate out "kick out" of solution, raising the viscosity of the ink and causing dirty printing.
