Basic Colour Matching – The Colour Wheel

Printers often wonder why a colour matcher will select certain pigments or colour toners to formulate their colour.

There are many reasons to use a particular pigment, including weather or chemical resistance, fade resistance, or even price. All of these constrain the ink technician, but, once the colour pallet has been set by the end-use requirements, the matcher will use the principle of the Colour Wheel to match the colour.

Troubleshooting:

Small holes on solid print (Pinholing)

Pinholing can occur due to a number of causes.
1)Substrate has holes. If this is the case you must change substrate.
2)Ink picking on idler roll. Reduce press speed or increase drying rate on tunnel or in-between dryers.
3)Surface tension of ink too high. Use surface tension modifiers (talk to your ink supplier).
4)Surface tension of substrate is too low. Corona Treat or use primer(talk to your ink supplier).
5)Wrong choice of plate mounting tape (sticky back). Change mounting tape (talk to your mounting tape supplier).
